Ireland Army Health Clinic strengthens readiness through quarterly skills training
Ireland Army Health Clinic brought together 57 team members for a hands-on clinical skills event, here October 15, designed to close identified training gaps, reinforce low-volume medical tasks, and sustain readiness across the organization.
The event included seven stations focused on individual critical tasks and medical skills identified through the clinic’s needs assessment, according to Lieutenant Colonel Christie Lang, deputy commander for nursing, Ireland Army Health Clinic. Training covered electrocardiogram lead placement; durable medical equipment, crutch gait, and stair training; upper-extremity splinting; Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set measures and swab techniques; basic cardiac rhythms and automated external defibrillator use; suture and staple removal; and perimenopause assessment and treatment planning.
Subject-matter experts from across the clinic led each station, giving participants the opportunity to refresh essential skills, validate competency, and share practical techniques applicable to daily patient care.
“Readiness begins with confident, capable teams who are prepared to deliver safe, high-quality care whenever and wherever our patients need us,” Lang said. “By deliberately identifying and addressing skill gaps, we strengthen both our individual proficiency and our organization’s ability to accomplish the mission.”
While the skills event is not new, the clinic plans to continue the initiative quarterly to maintain clinical competence, reinforce critical medical skills, and ensure personnel remain prepared to support the health and readiness of the military community.
