Rod Stewart, 81, Says Farewell Tour Will Be His Last
“My dear friends, the time has come to say farewell to life on the road,” Stewart said in a statement. He thanked audiences for making his career possible and promised fans “one hell of a show.”
Dubbed The Final Encore, the tour opens April 23 at Dublin's 3Arena. It then moves through Belfast, Glasgow, Birmingham, Manchester and London, with additional European dates to follow. The finale is set for July 24 at the ZAG Arena in Hanover, Germany.
Stewart stressed that he is not leaving music entirely. He left open the possibility of occasional concerts and other performances once the tour ends.
Two Colorado shows at the Red Rocks Amphitheatre remain on the calendar for September 2027, after the formal tour wraps. They were pushed back from June 2026 because of inflammation affecting his vocal cords.
The announcement comes after a turbulent stretch for his live schedule. Stewart canceled the remaining dates of his US One Last Time tour in August after what his representatives described as a routine coronary stent procedure. His team said then that the procedure was successful and his recovery was going well.
Stewart started performing as a teenager and was already crisscrossing Europe in the early 1960s with folk musician Wizz Jones. He passed through several groups, including Steampacket and Shotgun Express, before breaking through with the Jeff Beck Group and Faces.
His solo career took off with the 1971 album Every Picture Tells a Story, which featured the hit Maggie May. Later songs included Sailing, Tonight's the Night and Da Ya Think I'm Sexy?
He has notched 11 UK No. 1 albums. The latest arrived in 2024 with Swing Fever, a collaboration with pianist and bandleader Jools Holland.
A fan-club presale for The Final Encore begins Sept. 29, with general sale due Oct. 2. British musician Howard Jones will support Stewart on the UK and Ireland dates.
